Server RAM prices: what a DDR5 RDIMM costs in 2026
Server memory is where the shortage started and where the money is. It is also the channel with two prices: the street price of a new registered ECC module, and the contract price a cloud provider pays, which is capped for some buyers and not for others. How much does server RAM cost per GB in 2026?
A new DDR5 ECC RDIMM costs about $29.56 to $39.06 per gigabyte at retail as of August 14, 2026, against a tracked median of $35.70. That is roughly 2.2x the $16.20 per GB a consumer DDR5 kit averages. In module terms, a 64GB RDIMM runs about $2,064 and a 128GB module about $5,000. On the contract side TrendForce expects server DRAM prices to rise 13 to 18% quarter-over-quarter in 3Q26, but several US cloud providers hold multi-year agreements that bar suppliers from raising their prices, so that increase lands disproportionately on buyers without one.
The channel gap: same gigabyte, two prices
At the capacities both channels sell, a gigabyte of registered ECC memory costs nearly twice what the same gigabyte costs in a consumer kit. Part of that is real extra silicon, since a registered module carries a buffer and ECC dies. The rest is who is bidding: the consumer channel is picking through what a shortage leaves behind, while the server channel is the reason the shortage exists.

Why buyers are downshifting module density
Per gigabyte, this channel is close to flat: five of the six tracked capacities sit between $29.56 and $34.31, with no clean density curve in either direction. The exception is the 128GB module at $39.06 per GB, and that single outlier prices a behaviour TrendForce observed independently. In its words: CSPs and OEMs have gradually adjusted their RDIMM configurations, with some systems shifting from 96GB and 128GB modules to 32GB and 64GB modules. Module prices by capacity
Two different things sit in this block and they must not be blended. The module rows are new, in-stock registered ECC DDR5 RDIMM listings, read off a single-retailer live tracker (Amazon US), so they are retail street prices for server parts and not the contract prices a hyperscaler pays. The quarterly percentages are TrendForce contract-market forecasts, which are published as quarter-over-quarter changes rather than as free absolute levels. Used server memory is a separate and much cheaper channel that this block deliberately excludes.

The contract market, and who is shielded from it
Everything above is a street price for a new module. The prices that actually move the AI build-out are negotiated contracts, and TrendForce publishes those as quarter-over-quarter changes rather than levels. For 3Q26 it expects server DRAM up 13 to 18%, conventional DRAM up 13 to 18%, and NAND flash up 10 to 15%. The distribution of that increase is the part worth reading twice.
